Anna AtkinsAnna Atkins was a English Botanist.
She grew up in Tonbridge,Kent in england Ann was a botanist so she studied plants like a scientist, she did photography because it is the best way to study plants in the 1800's when people could only draw them back then. Ann also made cyanotype's famous by being the first woman to use pictures of cyanotypes in books. Anna Atkins worked with a inventor and found out when it was exposed to a U.V light eg. the sun the areas that are exposed and the bits covered up are not exposed to light. |

Slide show of Cyanotypes. |
What is Cyanotypes?A Cyanotype is a style of photographic printing that give's a cyan-blue print compared to black and white..
Instructions: They are made by using a special sheet of light sensitive paper which is already blue, then you get a object which you put on it and you must have a light source the best choice is the sun when in the sun and the paper is out you have only about 2 minutes to get everything on then when on for 2 minutes you take the object off then you put the paper in water for about a minute where it must be light blue then pat the paper softly. After simply leave it to dry then it should look like the pictures in the slide show. |
My 2 Cyanotypes
My first CyanotypeThis is my 1st cyanotype which is made mainly from stuff that is light a cassette, grass, length of film, clothes peg, a rubber and a triangle ruler the negative bit came out alright, however the cyanotype would of been better if I had exposed it for longer with the objects on top.
I think the best bit of this picture is the triangular ruler because you can faintly see the number's which means it is detailed and also this means it was exposed enough. |
My second CyanotypeThis is my second attempt that was not as good as the first attempt I think because I got rid of some of the materials and used lighter ones so it was but this one did come out alright but the second one was better. In this picture there is once again a rubber, a piece of film, a 15cm ruler, a piece of a film holder and a triangular ruler.
I think the best bit of this image is once again the ruler because there is once again detail because you can faintly see the numbers and these numbers are slightly more clearer then the other one. |
